Patrick Nicole Zulauf is born 1974 in Langenthal. 
He spend most of his childhood at the aircraft work-
shop of his father who is a airplain restaurator.

After training as a design-engineer and metal caster
at a company in a small village near Basel 
he continued his creative work as a draughtsman at
the design studio of Hans Zaugg in Solothurn 1995-1997
where he was creating furnitures, luminaires, watches
and stuff for any kind of innovative
product development process.

In 2000 Patrick deepened his knowledge while
studying interior architecture and product design at
the arts school in Basel (HGK FHNW FFI IN3),
then collaborated in projects for the swiss Expo.02
pavillions in Neuchâtel and as assistant at the
department industrialdesign of the ECAL in Lausanne.

2003 while working as an exhibition designer for the
art fair Basel, Patrick got to know the founder of
BELUX and subsequently started to work as an
industrial designer and product engineer for
BELUX that became a part of the VITRA company.
In thous following years he almost focused on light
and the building of luminaires and developed in
collaboration with known personae such as Frank
Gehry, Herzog & DeMeuron, Hella Jongerius,
Naoto Fukasawa or Antonio Citterio various and
innovativ lighting-systems for the object range
and living area.

2013 Patrick Zulauf started his own studio in Basel
and has been working project based and interdis-
ciplinary on individual items and series as designer
and product engineer ever since.
